Black Tie & Tails Ball - February 2009

CPT is already gearing up for the Black Tie & Tails Ball 2009! This year's ball raised over $29,000 for the big cats, and we hope you will join us in 2009 to make the event even more successful!

Tickets: $125/person

CPT is seeking sponsors, donated auction items, and volunteers to help plan the event. If you can help volunteer, contact Volunteer Coordinator, Scott Miller. If you you have ideas for Sponsors or auction items, contact our Director, Pam Fulk.

Bocca may be one of CPT’s friendliest caracals — and I’d venture to say she is certainly the feistiest! Her friendly nature shows itself when she calls to people she knows when they are standing at another enclosure. When you arrive, she may make a kind of chirruping sound in greeting and she rubs her chin and face back and forth against the fence — this is how she uses the scent glands on her cheeks to mark her territory.

During her 13 years at CPT, Bocca has not always been in an enclosure alone, but experience has shown that she is happy by herself – which is the natural state of things for caracals in the wild. She has a dominant character, which has caused her to challenge males put in with her; in addition, her enthusiastic grooming of other cats has been so vigorous that she gave them bald spots! She can also be very good at catching birds who stray too near.
